“Finally we will see Spartak in the Champions League” – Riancho on the possible transition of Russian football to Asia
In the event that the RFU moves from UEFA to the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), Russian clubs will make excellent competition for the local teams, former Spartak coach Raul Riancho told Sport24.
– It will be fantastic if, when Russian football moves to AFC, local clubs participate in international tournaments. RPL clubs will create excellent competition in Asian football.
Finally, we will see Spartak in the Asian Champions League. I am sure that with such a line-up and head coach, the Red-Whites will win this tournament,” Rancho said.
At the end of February 2022, FIFA and UEFA banned Russian clubs and national teams from participating in international matches. By the end of the year, the RFU Executive Committee will vote on the transfer of Russian football from UEFA to AFC.
