Day of Pele’s death was one of the worst in football history, says Capello
The day of the death of the three-time world champion Pele became one of the worst in the history of football, the former coach of Juventus, Real Madrid and the Russian national team Fabio Capello told RBC Sport.
Pele passed away on December 29 at the age of 82 after battling colon cancer. Earlier it became known that the body of the Brazilian stopped responding to chemotherapy.
“It is very sad, the whole world is mourning today. Pele was an amazing player, one of the best in history. My condolences to his family and all of Brazil. Today is one of the worst days in football history. I remember playing against him – Pele was always good, one of the best opponents in my life, – said Capello.
Pele is the only three-time world football champion (1958, 1962, 1970). He played 92 matches for Brazil and scored 77 goals. At the club level, the striker played for the Brazilian Santos and New York Cosmos.
