FIFA’s idea to name a stadium in every country after Pele is populist nonsense, Chervichenko said
Andrey Chervichenko, former president of Spartak Moscow, called the idea of FIFA President Gianni Infantino to name a stadium in every country in honor of the legendary Brazilian football player Pele nonsense.
The legendary football player died on December 29 at the age of 82.
A populist makes populist statements. Why the hell should we in Russia rename some stadium after Pele? In our country, most of the living people have not even seen him. I’ve only seen him in black and white. And I can’t say that I liked Pele more than Maradona or Messi.
At one time there was slow football – he was creative there. This is overkill. Whoever wants, let him rename it. They just throw in populist nonsense,” Chervichenko told the “Championship”.
Pele is the only three-time World Cup Champion (1958, 1962, 1970).
