The head of the regional government of the Madeira region of Portugal, Miguel Albuquerque, has criticized the former head coach of the Portuguese national team Fernando Santos for the decision not to involve Cristiano Ronaldo in the first team at the World Cup in Qatar.
“There were some mediocre people that no one knows who took the opportunity to say bad things about Ronaldo. Cristiano is the most famous Portuguese. Only because he did not go well at the World Cup in Qatar, ugly things began to be said about him. This is a bunch of nerds. Even more mediocre is the coach who has the best player in the world and, to humiliate him, puts him on the bench. This is a typical Portuguese. I’m glad they put him outside,” Albuquerque said.
The Portugal national team under the leadership of Santos at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar flew out in the quarterfinals, losing to the national team of Morocco (0:1).
