Former Ireland and Arsenal footballer arrested
Police have arrested former Ireland striker Anthony Stokes in Dublin, according to the Daily Mail.
As noted, police officers stopped the car of a 34-year-old football player, in which drugs were found – cocaine in the amount of 4 thousand pounds (about 4.5 thousand euros). Stokes and another man, who was in the car, tried to escape on foot, but the police detained them.
Police have arrested two men (aged around 30) in connection with dangerous driving incidents in Dublin. Some drugs were also seized from the car. Both men were taken to the police station under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 and charged. They were released on bail and are due to appear in court at a later date, the Garda (Irish police) said in a statement.
Stokes played in England for Arsenal, Sunderland, Sheffield, Crystal Palace, Blackburn, and became a three-time Scottish champion with Celtic. The striker has made nine appearances for the Ireland national team without scoring goals.
