Villarreal defeated Real Madrid in the home match of the 16th round of the championship of Spain.
The meeting ended with the score 2:1. The guests responded to a goal by Jeremy Pino and a penalty from Gerard Moreno with an accurate kick from Karim Benzema from the 11-meter mark.
Real Madrid are second in the standings with 38 points, while Barcelona are in the lead with 38 points and have a game in hand. Villarreal scored 27 points and climbed to fifth place.
In the next round, Villarreal will go to visit Celta on January 13, while Real Madrid’s home match with Valencia was postponed to February 2 due to the participation of clubs in the Spanish Super Cup, which will be held on January 11.
