Scandal with Promes may negatively affect Spartak’s image, says Masalitin
Former CSKA and Spartak striker Valery Masalitin believes that the problems of the Red-White player Quincy Promes with the law in the Netherlands may affect the club’s image.
Promes has been charged with grievous bodily harm and attempted murder by Dutch prosecutors and is due to stand trial in the case on March 3. According to law enforcement, in July 2020, Promes attacked his cousin with a knife after a party. According to the publication, the police learned about this story from telephone conversations with Promes. And the police began to listen to his apparatus as part of the investigation of another case – about drugs. Also, the Spartak player was suspected of transferring 250 thousand euros to a drug dealer, from whom 400 kilograms of cocaine were stolen.
– The absence of Promes at the training camp will, of course, have a negative impact on him. Now the foundation is being laid, there will be a lot of running work, strength training. This will play a role in future preparations.
It was clear that he had problems with Holland. Striker Keita Balde also had problems in Italy, received a disqualification – now Promes is in a similar situation. But if this all turns around, if a criminal case is opened against him in connection with drugs, then, of course, this will affect the image of Spartak – willy-nilly, because today he is a Spartak player, and everyone will mention this, Masalitin told Gazeta.Ru.
Promes first moved to Spartak in 2014, from where he left for Sevilla in 2018. In 2021, the footballer returned to the Russian club. In just 200 games for the Red-Whites, the 30-year-old striker scored 98 times. This is the seventh result in the history of Spartak, the top scorer is Nikita Simonyan – 160 goals.
