Referees at the FIFA Club World Cup will be explaining decisions made after using the Video Assistance Referee (VAR) system, reports the Times.
As noted, the judges will announce the reasons for which a particular decision was made through a microphone connected to the public address system, although their conversation with the VAR referee will remain confidential.
The experiment was previously approved at a meeting of the International Football Association Board (IFAB), the body empowered to change the rules of football. If it is considered successful, it could be extended to the Women’s World Championship, which will be held in Australia and New Zealand this summer.
The FIFA Club World Cup will be held in Morocco from 1 to 11 February.
