A tragic accident ended the career of a Tottenham graduate.
Going overseas to reboot his career is a logical decision for a footballer whose career in Europe has been hit by obstacles. The Tottenham graduate got used to the new realities, became a favorite of the public and an indispensable friend for teammates, but the athlete failed to realize his potential due to a tragic accident.
The defender was found unconscious near the maritime stadium. Rescuers and doctors tried to snatch Anton Walks from the clutches of death. Unfortunately, this was not possible…
Heartbreaking situation
Tottenham graduate Anton Walks, who has been playing for the MLS club Charlotte since the end of 2021, tragically died as a result of a collision between two boats. The 25-year-old football player made a trip on Wednesday afternoon near the Miami Marine sports stadium. Unfortunately, an ordinary boat trip ended in death for him.
According to the Miami Herald, the English player was found alive but unconscious. Rescuers on the spot provided first aid to the athlete by doing artificial respiration. Then Walks was sent to a local clinic, but the Charlotte player could not be saved. Until his 26th birthday, which the football player was supposed to celebrate in February, he never lived.
The player’s death was a tragedy for Charlotte fans. On the official website of the club, the sad news about the incident was placed on the main page. The owner of the “crowns” David Tepper noted that Anton was an incredible son, father, partner and teammate, infected everyone around with cheerfulness. Now in this heartbreaking situation, the club mourns with the family.
The MLS league did not remain aloof from the tragedy, reporting the incident to all fans of European football in North America. They are sad in the former teams of Anton “Portsmouth” and even “Tottenham”, in which the athlete spent only ten minutes on the field.
“We are deeply saddened by the news of the death of our former player Anton Walks. The thoughts of everyone at the club are now with their family and friends at this incredibly sad time.
Trophy and captain’s armband
Walks failed to fully realize his potential: as part of his native Tottenham, the player did not gain a foothold, having played only one game in the League Cup. The defender tried to take advantage of a new chance in MLS, where he played for Atlanta on loan. And then in Portsmouth, returning to England.
With playing practice in less ambitious teams, Anton got better, in 2019 he even got his first and only title: the English Football League trophy. In 2020, Walks again moved from England to the United States, where he had no problems with a place in the squad, and at times even entered the field with the captain’s armband.
Anton no longer had to seriously qualify for getting into the England national team or playing as part of the top club from the Premier League – he had to use his opportunities a little earlier. But still, in MLS, he could still count on progress, since for a central defender 25 years old is a very small age. Unfortunately, the football biography of the athlete ended too early.
