UEFA plans to bring RPL clubs back into European competitions. Dyukov will go to the executive committee, they can start with the youth team

Important meetings will be held at the end of January.

Wait for the clubs RPL in European competitions and the national team in tournaments Uefa And fifa unlikely in the foreseeable future. But there are changes in the relationship between the organizations. At least they maintain a dialogue. Therefore, the European organization has already held a meeting with the Russian Football Federation today. And at the next meeting of the executive committee Uefa will discuss the situation with the Russian teams.

super bowl Uefa-2023 – not in Kazan

The winners of the Champions League and Europa League at the end of the current season in the summer of 2023 will have to determine the new owner of the Super Cup. After the match took place in Hungary, England and Finland, it was expected in Kazan.

But the chances of its organization were initially slim: suffice it to recall that earlier the final was taken away from St. Petersburg Champions League in the 2021/22 season the national team was disqualified by the joints a world Cup-2022 and the Universiade-2023, which was to be held in Yekaterinburg, was postponed.

According to the latest insider Uefa plans to stick to his chosen course: Clubs and teams aren’t yet taking part in the organization’s tournaments, so it’s been reported that the Super Bowl will be held elsewhere.

The decision is important: the meeting opens a new season. According to it, it will be possible to judge which carrier it is related to RFS extension will choose Uefa for the next campaign

There are also positive conditions

Uefa maintains a dialogue with the Russian side – this is evidenced by several factors at once. Organization representatives will issue a question about the situation RFS extension for discussion at the executive committee meeting on January 25 (more on that later). And the day before, today they had a meeting with members of the Russian Football Union. Second averageits participants from the Russian side were General Secretary Maxim Mitrofanov and Deputy Chairman Alexander Alaev.

Former Russian national football player Andrei Kanchelskis, speaking of her, noted that the Russian youth team could be returned to the international arena:

As far as I heard, maybe they will come to such a decision that our youth and youth teams will be returned. But the national team, judging by this information, I think, will be slowed down for now. I think there will already be some small progress if our youth and youth teams can enter Europe, they will be able to play. I’ve heard of it in Europe. Obviously I can’t be 100% sure. They say that at the first stage they want to make such indulgences, and then move on.

Already after the meeting RFS extension released a statement:

The key theme was the need to bring Russian teams and clubs back to international competition. The parties agreed on the procedure for further interactions and agreed to continue the contacts. Next face-to-face meeting with representatives RFS extension And Uefa will take place in February.

The executive committee will discuss the state of Russian football

Information on the internal situation Uefa learned from communicating with representatives RFS extension. The next step is data analysis during the executive committee. It is already known that the president of the union, Alexander Dyukov, will also participate.

According to the latest data, the ground is being prepared in this way in case the preconditions arise for the return of clubs from the Russian Premier League to the European Cup tournaments.

At the same time, it is noted that such prerequisites in Uefa refer to the situation in Ukraine. According to the source, a sharp return of Russian clubs and teams to international competitions should not be expected in the near future. This will happen in stages.

As Kanchelskis said, the first step will probably be the return of the youth and women’s teams. At this point it will be possible to judge the reaction of the other members of the European association. Already on its basis, further actions are possible.

Intimidated by the move to the AFC

On the possibility of such a decision, the President RFS extension Alexander Dyukov spoke in November – it all came down to the verdict of the executive committee of the organization at the end of December. “For”, among others, the head coach of the Russian national team Valery Karpin spoke. The situation was described in detail by the deputy chairman of the trade union Denis Solovyov:

The decision will be made by December 31, 2022. The fact is that if we do not request withdrawal from Uefa before the last day of the financial year, they can say they will consider our issue in July 2024. So we lose a year and a half. If we decide to withdraw, they must be notified before the 31st. So Uefa he should consider our problem in six months.

At the same time, the vote was twice postponed and before the new year itself it was reported that a working group would consider moving to the Asian Confederation. One can only guess whether it was a bluff to get a reaction from the side Uefa, or leaving the organization was discussed on the grounds that real action would follow. But the advantages of such solutions are obvious.

First, the officials followed the reaction of the clubs and fans. It is still clear that the competition, benefits and media coverage are many times higher in European competitions, from the return to Champions League, THE and LK will all be profitable. Secondly, the creation of the working group made it possible to postpone the inevitable: sooner or later a decision will have to be made. Now at least there is time – the Russian side will not have to burn bridges prematurely, at the same time you can see what steps it will take Uefa.

Semin spoke out in favor of returning to the classic format of the Russian Cup

The old format of the Russian Cup with knockout matches made the football tournament more entertaining and understandable. This opinion was expressed by the former coach of the Russian national team Yuri Semin.

Previously, the Telegram channel Sport Baza reported that the Russian Football Federation (RFU) plans to change the format of the tournament, returning to a single-elimination format.

“I liked the old format of the Russian Cup. It was a real cup draw. I think it’s worth returning to the classic system of knockout matches,” Semin said.

“It was more interesting like this: you arrive in a Second or First League team, you see the full stadiums, the real emotion. This format is closer to me. Everything is clear and understandable, if you lose you’re out,” he added.

From the 2022/23 season the tournament is divided into “path RPL” and “Path of the regions”. “Path RPL“includes the clubs of the Russian Premier League, divided into four groups, playing two rounds, a total of six matches. According to the results of the group stage, the first two places go to the upper round of the playoffs, the third to the lower round, and the fourth is eliminated. The Path of Regions consists of qualifying rounds involving amateur teams and clubs from the Second League. At the stage of the fourth preliminary round, clubs from the First League join the winners of the third round. Sixteen winners play according to the cup (one match), the top four teams are added to the lower round of the Russian Cup playoffs. The winners of the “path” will meet in the super final RPL” and “paths of the regions”.
