Defender of the St. Petersburg “Zenith” Danil Krugovoi told Metaratings.ru about the competition for a place in the starting lineup with Douglas Santos.

— Your position competitor Douglas Santos is one of the best RPL players. Is it realistic to compete with him, or is it only left to expect that he will be used in another position?

– First: Douglas is a great football player, and I’m learning from him. I try to take the best from his game. I have always had strong competitors – in Ufa, for example, Jokic played in my position. For me, playing with them is a good opportunity to get better.

As for competition, yes, I think I can compete with Douglas. And I do it every day. It is clear that his status is higher. But in the future, I hope, either they will find a position for both of us, or I will still be able to get a place in the starting lineup. I want to emphasize: I have no thoughts about leaving Zenit. I will continue to work and prove to the coaching staff.

– At the same time, Semak said back in August that it was not about Douglas, but about you. That if you are in perfect shape, they will find a place at the base.

– He told me that there are no big claims against me. But there are times when I lose focus and turn off. And we need to work on this. Apparently, this is my main problem, that I turn off for some fractions of a second.

This season, Krugovoy has played 15 matches for Zenit, spending a total of 542 minutes on the field (an average of about 36 minutes per match).

The Russian football season will resume on February 22 with the matches of the FONBET Cup of Russia, and on March 3 the WORLD RPL will continue.
