The newcomer of Spartak, Tomas Tavares, is a good level player with great tactical skills, Valter Marquez, a journalist from the Portuguese Record, told RB Sport.
The transfer of the player from Benfica was announced on Tuesday. Tavares’ contract with Spartak runs until 2026 with the option of a season extension.
– Benfica had high hopes for Tomas Tavares, he joined the first team at a very young age, he was attracted by Bruno Lage. Tomas started off great, but then the results got worse. Subsequently, Tavares was unable to gain the confidence of any Benfica coach.
I’m sorry that he had no luck at Benfica. I think Tomas is a good player. Tavares now has the opportunity to make a name for himself in Russia, just as he did in Switzerland while playing for Basel.
Tavares is a smart player with great tactical skills and a well-placed passing. I was always told that he is a modest young man, well educated, and I have never heard Tomas cause problems in the dressing room. I think it will be the same in Spartak. I hope that everything will work out for him in Russia,” Marquez said.
Tavares is familiar with Muscovites head coach Guillermo Abascal through joint work at Basel, for whom he played on loan in the 2021/22 season. The 21-year-old has not played a single match for Benfica this season due to a serious injury.
