Plane with Gothenburg players makes emergency landing due to 30 soccer balls
The plane with the players of the Swedish football club Gothenburg made an emergency landing due to the fact that the pilot was afraid of the explosion of 30 balls in the luggage compartment, according to Aftonbladet.
On Thursday morning the plane took off from Gothenburg to Alicante (Spain) for collection. About 40 minutes after takeoff, the pilot announced that the plane needed to make an emergency landing due to the risk of exploding 30 inflated footballs that were in the luggage compartment.
The club’s equipment manager, Rolf Gustavsson, said the balls were deflated before departure.
— These are new balls, and they seem to be inflated. Somehow they (the crew) got an indication that they had air in them. It was a false alarm,” Gustavsson said.
After an hour-long stopover in Copenhagen, the plane landed in Alicante on Thursday afternoon.
