The leaders of the English “Chelsea” and the Portuguese “Benfica” almost got into a fight in the negotiations about the future midfielder Enzo Fernandez, according to the Daily Mail, citing the Portuguese edition of Record.

The world champion moved to the Premier League club on the last day of the transfer window for a UK-record €121m. Negotiations for the player’s move continued for most of January.

According to the publication, Benfica President Rui Costa flew to London on January 3 for talks. The meeting was attended by Chelsea owner Todd Bowley and Portuguese agent Jorge Mendes. It is reported that the parties were close in the dispute to a physical confrontation. As a result of the dispute, Costa left the negotiation room in anger, as in the course of the conversation, Chelsea reduced the offer from 120 to 90 million euros. Chelsea denied reports of such a showdown.

Negotiations continued only after the Londoners’ initial offer of 120 million.
