“For us, these amounts do not fit in the head” – Bayern sporting director on Chelsea spending on newcomers
Bayern Munich sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic has criticized Chelsea’s excessive spending in the winter transfer window.
– For us, these amounts do not fit in our heads. When we have the opportunity to sign a top player in the Bundesliga, we always think about how to offset transfer costs.
We know that we cannot compete financially with clubs like Chelsea, but we also know that Bayern is attractive to many players because of the style of play, success, history and atmosphere around the club,” Salihamidzic said.
Chelsea have signed midfielder Enzo Fernandes from Portugal’s Benfica for €121m (£107m), a Premier League record. According to the Independent, the London club’s total spending during the winter transfer window was around £323m.
