Former football player and coach of the Moscow Spartak Valery Gladilin believes that Alexander Kerzhakov made the right decision by agreeing to head the Cypriot club Karmiotissa.

On Monday, the technical director of the Cypriot club “Karmiotissa” Tthonis Antoniou announced the appointment of ex-striker “Zenith” and the Russian national team Alexander Kerzhakov to the post of head coach.

“This is not a step back. When a coach sits without work, it’s bad. There should not be a big break in creative activity, especially coaching. I think he made the right decision. Yes, Cypriot football in comparison with Russian football is a drop in the class. But he will have practice, continue coaching.

Kerzhakov is still a young specialist, he has just started coaching. This is useful for him, he just follows the coaching path. He is gaining experience, international besides, – Gladilin told Gazeta.Ru.

In the 2021/22 season, Kerzhakov served as head coach at PARI NN Nizhny Novgorod. Under his leadership, the club took 11th place in the Russian championship.

The Russian football season will resume on February 22 with FONBET Russian Cup matches. On March 3, the WORLD RPL draw will continue. Watch live broadcasts of RPL matches and the Cup of the country on the Match TV federal channel and the thematic channels of the holding, as well as on matchtv.ru and sportbox.ru websites.
