Russian coach Sergei Yuran believes that football player Pavel Mamaev did not fully reveal his playing potential, since he did not play in European championships during his career.
On February 11, Mamaev told Match TV about the end of his sports career. The 34-year-old midfielder has been a free agent since leaving Khimki in July 2022.
– Pavel Mamaev played in the leading clubs – CSKA, Krasnodar, was also a player in the Russian national team. Became the champion of the country and the owner of cups. I did not play abroad and I will admit that I did not fully realize myself. Still, every football player dreams of playing abroad. You always want to get the most out of football. But there are colossal loads and injuries that haunt football players – the body does not get younger every year.
Pavel considered it necessary to end his career. He made a decision without waking up one day, but something specific prompted him to accept this thought. Probably, I realized that at the level that he has, it will be difficult to play further. Yes, Pasha finished as a player, but he can switch to a coaching position. I think he will be connected with football, because he devoted half of his life to it. This is his decision and it must be treated with respect, – Sport24 quotes Yuran.
Mamaev is the champion of Russia in the 2012/13 season, a three-time winner of the Russian Cup.
