The age issue for veterans is the same as for younger performers. No need to look at the passport if the player meets the level. If at 17 he deserves to play, so be it. He shouldn’t play if he doesn’t deserve it or if he isn’t superior to another player. The same can be said about the 37-year-old player.
The coach must evaluate what is happening on the pitch every day, in every training session, whether he will play according to the requirements, regardless of age. I think the player’s age shouldn’t influence this decision.
