Sochi striker Georgy Melkadze told RB Sport that he did not try to leave for one of the European clubs.

– After the first match at the winter tournament, you said: “If I wanted to, I could try myself in some European country.”

– They asked me: “Would you like to leave here?”. It was not a question about some good club in Europe. If I really wanted to leave Russia, I probably would have found a club weaker than Sochi.

Did you have any options?

– There were no options, because I myself did not ask, did not look. But after the European Championship in 2015, I could try. If I had wanted then, I probably could have found a team. But it is clear that in terms of strength it could be, for example, not even Lyon. Many people start small, and that’s okay.

“Don’t you regret that you didn’t try it?”

– No. I definitely do not regret everything that happened in the past. Otherwise it could have been worse.

Melkadze is a graduate of the Moscow “Spartak”. The forward played in Tosno, Tambov and Akhmat. In 2022, he moved to Sochi.

The 25-year-old has made 18 appearances this season, scoring 5 goals and 2 assists.

The WORLD RPL draw will resume on March 3. Watch live broadcasts on the Match TV federal channel, matchtv.ru and sportbox.ru websites.
