Former head coach of Spartak Andrey Chernyshov compared Guillermo Abascal, who now heads the Moscow team, with ex-coach of the Red-Whites Massimo Carrera.

— It doesn’t seem to me that the stories of Abascal and Carrera in Spartak are similar. First, one is Spaniard and the other is Italian. Plus, Massimo worked at Conte’s headquarters and had never been a head coach before, and Abascal had already led a professional team. Each of these people has their own life and history.

Now we see that Guillermo is a qualified specialist. Some judge a coach only by games, although they do not know how a person works in the training process and what kind of relationship the coach has with the players. The management of Spartak extended the contract with Abaskal, because they analyzed his work off the field, although the result is put at the forefront.

Surely, the bosses of the “red-white” talked with the leading players of the club and asked their opinion about Guillermo. After learning the information in Spartak, they realized that with this coach they could go further and work for a few more seasons. In general, Abascal has done a good job, now we have to see how he will bring the team to the end of the championship,” Chernyshov told Metaratings.ru.

Carrera headed Spartak from 2016 to 2018. He is the last coach who led the Red-Whites to victory in the Russian Championship.

Abascal became the head coach of the Moscow club before the start of the 2022/23 season.

Spartak is second in the Russian Championship table with 36 points in 17 rounds and 6 points behind the leaders Zenit.
