Former Lokomotiv Moscow defender Sergei Gurenko, who now lives in Belarus, told Sport Day after Day that there are enough judicial scandals in the country.
— Former footballers would cope with refereeing better?
– It seems to me that people who have played football understand and feel these episodes more easily. In some episodes, only the person who once played can understand.
– Are there worthy judicial candidates in Belarus who could be useful to Russian football?
– Now in Russia they work with VAR, but in Belarus it is not. The first problem for Belarusian judges is the inability to work with VAR. It is not so easy to learn it, you need some experience.
– How are things with refereeing in Belarus in general? Lots of scandals?
There are enough scandals in Belarus too. The trouble with refereeing is here.
– VAR appeared, but there were no fewer scandals. What do you associate it with?
– There are a lot of episodes that are difficult to decide – 50/50. By assigning a penalty is a very difficult situation, it is difficult to solve. Outside the game, too, strangely regarded. Half a foot behind the line is already offside. Rave. I would measure outside the game by the body. If the attacking player has predominantly a body behind the line, then it is out of play. In football, it is very important who wins the body first. But these situations, when everything is decided by the length of a person’s leg, are a circus, as for me.
