‘I played for my mom’ – Premier League footballer explains his decision to take the field three days after his brother’s death

Nottingham Forest defender Serge Aurier explained his decision to play just three days after the death of his brother with the desire to emotionally support his mother.
Aurier’s brother Christopher was shot dead in France in July 2020. Less than 72 hours later, Serge Aurier played Newcastle for his then club Tottenham.
— I played for my mother. She needed to know that life didn’t stop.
We have lost my brother whom we loved so much. But I wanted to play, because it is, first of all, my job. After that we have our family life.
