The RFU responded to information about the participation of the Russian team in the first championship of the Football Association of Central Asia
The communications service of the Russian Football Union (RFU) commented to Match TV about the information that the national team will take part in the first Central Asian Football Association (CAFA) championship in June.
Earlier, the press secretary of the Football Federation of Tajikistan, Faridun Saliev, told Match TV that the Russian team would take part in the tournament, which will be held from June 9 to 21, 2023. Teams from Tajikistan, Iran, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan and Afghanistan will play in it. CAFA also invited one of the Asian teams to participate in the new tournament.
– At the moment, the possibility and conditions for the participation of the Russian national team in this tournament are being discussed, – Match TV quotes the message of the RFU communications service.
On June 11, during the dates of the CAFA tournament, Luzhniki will host the final match of the FONBET Cup of Russia 2022/23.
At the end of December, the RFU executive committee raised the issue of a possible transition of the organization to the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). Later, together with UEFA, it was decided to create a working group, the purpose of which is to develop a roadmap for the speedy return of Russian teams to international tournaments.
