Pogrebnyak doubts that the Russian team will play at the CAFA tournament
Former striker of the Russian national team Pavel Pogrebnyak expressed doubt that the national team will play in the first championship of the Central Asian Football Association (CAFA).
Earlier, the press secretary of the Football Federation of Tajikistan, Faridun Saliev, told Match TV about the participation of the Russian national team in the tournament. All six members of the Football Association – Tajikistan, Iran, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan and Afghanistan – have confirmed participation in the CAFA‑2023 championship among national teams. CAFA also invited one of the Asian teams to participate in the new tournament.
— I’m a little incompetent in this matter. It seems to me that now everything is changing and every day there is some new news and stories. I would not get ahead of myself that the Russian team will definitely take part in the tournament of the Central Asian Football Association. Unpredictable timing. I don’t know what will happen,” Pogrebnyak said to the “Championship”.
