Kavazashvili was pleased with the message about the participation of the Russian team in the CAFA tournament

Former goalkeeper of Spartak and the USSR national team Anzor Kavazashvili called the possible participation of the Russian team in the first tournament of the Central Asian Football Association (CAFA), which should be held in the summer of 2023, an excellent option.

On Monday, the press secretary of the Football Federation of Tajikistan, Faridun Saliev, told Match TV that the Russian team would take part in the CAFA championship. Later, the RFU clarified that it was only discussing the possibility and conditions for participation in the tournament. The CAFA Championship will take place from 9 to 21 June 2023.

– The participation of the Russian team in the tournament in Asia is wonderful! Otherwise, the team may wither away: forty people will gather at the training camp and play among themselves. Sanctions unsettle us, so we need equal opponents. Do not be surprised that Russia has caught up in level with those who will participate in the tournament in Asia. We need time to improve the quality of the game. At the tournament in Asia, the Russian team does not need to win at all costs, – Kavazashvili told the “Championship”.

Participation in the CAFA‑2023 championship among national teams has already been confirmed by six members of the football association — Tajikistan, Iran, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan and Afghanistan. CAFA also invited one of the Asian teams to participate in the new tournament.
