The champion advances Champions League: Thibaut Courtois hardly had to work a bit in the first half to secure his ranking Real Madrid in the quarter-finals of the European competition, in a match against Liverpool which the Spanish team controlled in the second half and finished winning 1-0 with Karim Benzema’s goal.

The game had more shots on goal than the 5-2 of the first leg (13 vs. 11), but much less emotion: The start was entertaining with both teams close to the goal, but once Liverpool seemed to assume they couldn’t change the order, it all got pretty monotonous.

Now Real Madrid, the only Spanish side in the competition’s quarter-finals, await Friday’s draw: they could face Napoli, Inter Milan, Chelsea, Manchester City, Benfica or Bayern Munich.
