Defender of the Dutch “Groningen” Jetro Willems received a blow to the head by a fan of his own team. The incident occurred during a match against Heerenveen on Sunday.
Groningen trailed 0-2 at home and in the 80th minute angry fans entered the pitch. Willems took to the stands to try to calm the fans but was at one point attacked with a powerful blow to the head.
Willems was immediately removed from the danger zone. As it became known later, the player escaped serious harm.
The match continued after a long break and ended with the same score – 2:0 in favor of the guests.
