Lazio issued a life ban to a fan for wearing a Hitlerson T-shirt with the number 88 commonly associated with the Nazi salute.
The fan attended the team’s match with Roma as part of the 27th round of the Italian championship. The meeting took place on March 19 and ended with the victory of Lazio with a score of 1:0.
Two other fans were also banned from attending club matches for performing Roman salutes associated with fascism. Lazio said all three had “nothing to do” with the club’s support and “showed forms of discrimination”.
According to the Italian agency Ansa, the fan who was wearing the provocative T-shirt turned out to be a German citizen. His identity was established through CCTV footage.
All three are under investigation by the authorities for violating an anti-fascist law known as the Mancino law. The law provides for sanctions for phrases, gestures, actions and slogans aimed at inciting hatred, violence or discrimination based on race, religion or nationality.
