Zenit midfielder Andrei Mostovoy believes that his teammate Wilmar Barrios can become the team captain, because he is always ready to listen and give advice.
The 29-year-old Colombian has been playing for the Blue-White-Blues since 2019.
Barrios is the kind of person who can run a locker room. There were times when something went wrong with us, and Wilmar got up and spoke. Both players and coaches. All through an interpreter so that everyone can hear and understand.
– Regarding Barrios, sometimes there is a break in the pattern. On the field he is a fighter; in the locker room, as you just said, a leader who can stuff everyone. But in ordinary life almost always behaves like a small child. How can you explain this?
– There are such people: the most serious on the field, but the most liberated in life. In terms of football, sometimes I feel that Barrios is ready to be the captain of the team. Always listens and advises. We discuss it with him all the time.
But the rest of the time, Wilmar radiates positive. For example, he walks and cries like a bird. You can also leave the locker room early, go around the corner and wait. And when I come up, he tries to scare me: he jumps out from behind the corner and barks like a dog. It’s great that people like this exist. Kucho is an overtop!
What language do you communicate with him?
Barrios has very poor English. Of course, he understands something. So we are trying to talk, ”Mostovoy told Sport24.
Barrios has made 22 appearances this season, scoring a goal and 2 assists.
