Russia would become the champion in Asia every time, says Iraqi national team player Rashid

Russia would be a leader in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), Iraq midfielder Osama Rashid told RB Sport.

The Russian team on March 26 in St. Petersburg defeated the Iraqi team (2:0).

— I would like Russia to come to our home, to Iraq. We could play a good game again.

If Russia moves to the AFC, you will be the main favorite for the tournament. I think every time we would become champions. Why not? But I wouldn’t want you to switch, because then it will be even harder for us to win. (laughing.) But if this happens, you will be at the top in Asia and raise the level of football, – said Rashid, who plays for the Portuguese Wiesela.

At the end of February 2022, FIFA and UEFA suspended Russian teams and clubs from participating in international tournaments due to the situation in Ukraine. The RFU considered the possibility of moving to the AFC, but it was decided to create a working group with the participation of representatives of UEFA and FIFA, which will discuss in more detail the prospects for Russian football. On February 1, 2023, the AFC Congress was held in Manama (Bahrain), where Dyukov was present.
