Spanish coach Josep Clotet told why he accepted the invitation of the Moscow “Torpedo” to lead the team.
Torpedo announced the appointment of a 45-year-old Spanish specialist as head coach on March 28. Earlier this season, Torpedo was coached by Alexander Borodyuk, Nikolay Savichev and Andrey Talalaev.
– Torpedo is an unstable project. Didn’t that scare you?
— I have never been afraid of new projects in football. Forgive me if I do not know the whole history of the club to the end. I talked a lot with the management, the president of the club. The whole project is focused on the long term. Ideas attracted me greatly, and I was not afraid of anything. I am not afraid of new challenges. The past is important for a better understanding of the present. We are future oriented.
– Are you capable of doing a miracle – leaving Torpedo in the RPL?
– It is difficult to answer your question so directly, I intend to complete the tasks step by step. Players have to work hard to prove. Now I am focused to start winning and go forward. Headquarters, management, coaches are waiting for the support of the fans.
My philosophy is high-speed football, a quick transition from defense to attack. All my teams practice dynamic football, I will implement this in Torpedo. Football is a long-term development, I came at the height of the season. My task is to unite the team around me, to unite. We must be competitive. Now we are focused on Rostov to take three points there. I saw Rostov’s penalty statistics, they are of great importance, they affect the result. Torpedo is in last place in the WORLD RPL table with 10 points. In the next round of the Russian Championship, Torpedo will meet Rostov on the road on April 2.
