Former Manchester City and Liverpool striker says he’s bankrupt
Former Wales, Manchester City and Liverpool international Craig Bellamy spoke about his financial problems.
“For the last five or six years, I feel like I’ve been living on death row, waiting for someone to open the door and tell me, ‘Today is that day.’ I lost all the money I made. I have nothing, everything is gone. I don’t dodge taxes, but they took everything from me. All! And I got to the point where bankruptcy was a relief for me.
I know people will think that I spent it all on alcohol, drugs or gambling, but no. I never bet in my life, I bet on the wrong people.
I had a lot and I felt guilty for saying no to those who asked me for help. One day your career ends, and after that, who supports you? You must learn to survive and live in the real world, — quotes the words of Bellamy Daily Mail.
According to the English press, a divorce and several unsuccessful investments caused the ex-footballer’s financial problems. The English tax authorities confiscated Bellamy’s property to pay off debts.
