Dani Alves to testify in rape case
Former Barcelona footballer Dani Alves will testify again in a rape case in which he is accused, reports As.
Prior to this, the 39-year-old Brazilian gave different testimonies three times. Now he wants to again state his version of what happened, his defense asked the court to give such an opportunity. The judge granted the petition, Dani Alves will appear before the court on Monday, April 17. Alves is expected to argue that the connection was consensual.
At the same time, the judge rejected the request of the Brazilian football player’s defense that a psychologist hired by him examine a 23-year-old girl who accused the athlete of rape. Alves’ lawyer, Cristobal Martell, also requested that the examination be filmed. Martell thus wanted to determine whether the alleged victim’s story and the symptoms she presents are compatible with rape, since, according to him, her allegations suffer from a “narrative distortion”.
The former Barcelona and Brazil defender has been in custody since January on charges of raping a girl in a nightclub in Barcelona in late December. He faces up to 12 years in prison.
The Mexican club Pumas, for which the Brazilian recently played, terminated his contract. Alves’ wife Joana Sanz filed for divorce in January.
The footballer played in Europe for Sevilla, Barcelona, Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain. He played 126 matches for the Brazilian national team, as part of the team he became a two-time winner of the America’s Cup and the Confederations Cup.
