Venezuelan striker of Akron Togliatti Andres Ponce told Sport24 that he constantly faced crime in his homeland.
What part of Venezuela did your family live in?
– Dangerous.
– Come on.
I saw crime all the time.
– Tell me.
– It was already during a professional career. I came on vacation to my hometown. In the morning I decided to go out to work out, just to cheer up a little. Towards – two guys, one has a gun. As a result, they took away my brother’s motorcycle, on which I came to training. Simple practice.
Is this the scariest story from Venezuela?
“This has happened to me many times. One day I was on the bus home from training. Two guys with knives came in, they were moving towards me. They wanted to pick up the phone. I did not want to give, they began to threaten me. I was then 12 years old.
How many times have you been robbed?
– Seven or eight.
Does it make sense to go to the police?
– Don’t think. Then I tried to talk to the police, they were trying to find the loss. To no avail,” Ponce said.
Ponce, 26, has made 10 appearances for Akron this season, scoring 4 goals and 1 assist.
