In the last 5 seasons, we have seen two English clubs in the European Cup final. Furthermore, if the 2020/21 season ended with a duel between Chelsea and City in the Champions League, and in THE – encounter Manchester United with Villarreal, then in the 2018/19 season, both finals were made up entirely of English teams.
This time the turning point in the international field belongs to the Italian giants. We can see Serie A representatives in the decisive matches of each of the three European competitions.
Most of it was inside Champions League – there are two left
In the case of the main European Cup, two things deserve attention at once. First, neither Milan nor Inter, let alone Napoli, have come this far in recent years. At best, their ceiling was 1/8 finals Champions League – and in this draw, all three were in the quarterfinals.
Secondly, they ended up on the same side of the network. At the same time, this made it possible to follow the Italian derbies and not play with real European hunters: Manchester City, Real Madrid, Bayern.
“Napoli” among this trinity seemed to be a favorite. The Azzurri play enchantingly, they have the best players in almost every position: Victor Osimkhen and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia could make the difference in a separate clash. The Neapolitans met with Milan – and flew away! The Rossoneri created the only favorable scenario, having obtained the victory in the first leg.
In the quarter, Inter played Benfica – and even the advantage was not on the side of Milan. Simone Inzaghi sees inside Champions League a way to save work, so the nerazzurri play accordingly. Against their background, it was much more interesting to look at the Portuguese. But the Italians, playing football with unsightly eyes, did it with high quality and managed to get to the semifinals.
There will be an Italian derby again. Inter-Milan is an interesting signal, but there are big doubts about the brightness of the comparison. Both teams are pragmatic, they don’t show the same extravagance as Napoli. And in this scenario they are very good.
Italian final in the Europa League
Roma and Juventus have come a long way from the play-offs to the semi-finals. Moreover, Turintsy had already fought for the Champions League playoffs and failed miserably. But in the second part of the championship, the bianconeri are unrecognizable.
The “Old Lady” gained enormous momentum after she was deducted 15 points (which, by the way, have now been returned during the investigation) in the case of fictitious capital gains. Massimiliano Allegri’s wards were so angry that in the period from February to the beginning of April they lost only once – to Roma in Serie A. Zebre set off to fill the gap and in the second half of April were in the first pursuers of the first five.
In parallel, Juve went to THE Nantes, Freiburg and now Sporting. For the final, you will have to fight with the toughest opponent. Sevilla hold the record for most titles in THE (6). And even in a state of crisis, the Mingyans confirm their status: in the quarterfinals, they easily overcame United, who went quadruple. Even if the match is worth the candle, another Italian team can wait for the Turints in the final.
Roma are fantastic this season. A year earlier, the Romans had only reached sixth line in the league and won the LC. The indicators are satisfactory, but it is surprising that Jose Mourinho has managed to make a big step forward with the team. Before Juve’s 15 points were returned, Roma were in the top 3 and ahead of Milan by 3 points. At the same time, the “giallorossi” did nothing supernatural: they beat those who should have, lost to Lazio, Napoli, shared points with Milan. For the 3-4th line, this was enough.
But in the Europa League there were quite strong opponents. Jose Mourinho’s boys played against Salzburg in the play-offs. Champions League, then met Real Sociedad, Feyenoord. Now there will be Bayer – and the Germans will be the heaviest obstacle for the Romans of all.
In the enchanting LK “Fiorentina”
And until recently there was also Lazio, but the Eagles decided that second place in Serie A was more important for them than the third most important European Cup.
The Violets don’t have to fight for league medals, plus they were in the middle of the table until recently and the Conference League has become an outlet. Vincenzo Italiano’s departments eliminated Braga, Sivasspor and Polish Lech in the semifinals. Moreover, in the case of the latter, the Italians gave a thriller – having an advantage of 4:1 before the second leg, burned 0:3 after 70 minutes – and only thanks to goals from Sottil and Castrovilli did they keep a ticket to the semifinals.
Now the fun begins for Fiorentina. In Serie A, the team is once again fighting for the Champions Cup zone – and the gap from Inter is 9 points. And in parallel, they enter the final battles for victory in the Conference League. For a ticket to the final, the Florentines will compete with the Swiss “Basel” – and in the decisive match they will be able to meet the winner of the West Ham pair – AZ.
This year in the arena of the European Cup for Italian teams is by far the best. The Serie A greats have a chance of taking all the trophies at once – only the resistance in their way will be serious.
