The CSKA goalkeeper was very close to a unique achievement.
CSKA Moscow beat Ural in the final of the FONBET RPL Path of the Russian Cup. The final score is 2:1, but it could have become more in the last seconds of the match. All thanks to Igor Akinfeev.
It is interesting that the Muscovites goalkeeper did not play in his usual incarnation. No, he didn’t take a penalty and didn’t make a super save. Igor could have been included in the protocol as… the scorer!
A few centimeters
The episode in question took place at the 94th minute. “Ural”, losing in the score, fell on the army gates with the whole team, and even goalkeeper Ilya Pomazun ran ahead. Yekaterinburgers served a free kick, but Akinfeev confidently took possession of the ball.
And then he, seeing an empty net, hit hard in their direction. The ball flew about 60 meters, hit the lawn and jumped to the area of the left post. Only the speed of Ray Vlut did not allow Akinfeev’s goal to happen – the Ural football player managed to stop the ball a few centimeters from the goal. True, by that time the danger of the episode had slightly decreased, but in dynamics it still looked very impressive.

Only two
Akinfeev could enter the company of Russian goalkeepers who scored goals from the game in official matches. In the entire history of domestic football, there have been only two such people.
In 2010, Kuban goalkeeper Alexander Budakov became a hero, who scored against KAMAZ with a kick from his own goal. That match, which took place as part of the 28th round of the first league, ended in favor of Krasnodar (2: 1), and Budakov’s goal became victorious.
Another episode in which the goalkeeper was noted occurred in the match of the FNL “Chertanovo” – “Spartak-2” in 2021. In the 93rd minute Chertanovites goalkeeper Aleksandr Radionov ran into the opponent’s penalty area and headed the ball into the net. True, these exploits did not help his team, which lost with a score of 3:4.
Andrey Novosadov and Andrey Dikan also scored in different years – however, only from the 11-meter mark.
One more chance
As for the result in the match between CSKA and Ural, it allowed the army club to reach the Russian Cup superfinal. Vladimir Fedotov’s team will face either Ural (again!) or Krasnodar. Their match will take place on May 17, and the superfinal is scheduled for June 11.
Maybe Akinfeev will be able to score there?
