The Bureau of the Executive Committee of the Russian Football Federation has adopted the reform of the Second League. From the next 2023-2024 season, the Second League will be divided into two divisions.
According to the reform, from the 2023-2024 season, the Second League will be divided into two divisions “A” and “B”, the competition of which will continue to be contested by the Football National League.
Division ‘A’ will feature 20 teams, which will be divided into ‘gold’ and ‘silver’ groups. The competitions will be held according to the “autumn-spring” system in two phases, respectively from July/August to November and from March to May/June.
Participants in the first stage will be the teams that finished 2nd to 5th in the final tables in their respective groups (1A, 2A, 3A and 4A) of the Second League in the 2022/23 season, as well as those who obtained 15 – 18th place in the First League final table for the 2022/23 season. The teams will be divided into “gold” and “silver” groups according to the sporting principle. The Serie B tournament will take place according to the spring-autumn system, from March to November.
