Former Krylia Sovetov defender Ivan Taranov spoke about the reasons for leaving CSKA for the Samara club.

Taranov played for the Moscow club from 2002 to 2008, after which he moved to Krylya Sovetov, where he stayed until 2018.

– Why did you decide to leave CSKA for Wings? The Berezutsky brothers were mercilessly criticized in the middle of the 2000s, it seemed that you would have a chance.

– The Berezutskys played more on the flanks, Ignashevich – in the center. In games, Gazzaev usually used a scheme with three defenders, and let me go to midfield. Therefore, there was no competition with them. Aldonin and Rakhimich were in my position. I was not afraid of competition, but I felt that I was sitting out. I was no longer in the mood to substitute for 10 minutes in the end if we win. Why sit and be patient? Tired, and the level of the double has outgrown.

– You spent 10 seasons in Krylia and caught everything – from reaching the European Cups to two relegations to the FNL. What can you say about these seasons?

– The main mess in my life (laughs). Football is a team game. Although we are used to thinking that the players and the coach are to blame for everything, and they also get trophies, you need to understand that a football club is a big system that starts with a person who manages everything. To summarize, this is a tremendous experience that helps me now at the beginning of my coaching work.

— What connects you with Samara now?

– Zhiguli beer and crayfish (laughs). For the most part, now only a common history connects with the city and the team,” Taranov said to Metaratings.ru
