Gabriel Gallanithe 24-year-old captain of Piccardo Traversetolo, who play in the fifth division of the Netherlands, died on Friday.
The footballer was walking in the company of a group of friends, but at one point he fell into a pond. It was not possible to save the player, he drowned.
The police have launched an investigation. Video recordings from CCTV are being studied by Dutch law enforcement agencies.
