In Brazil, the illumination of the statue of Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro was turned off for an hour in support of the football player of Real Madrid and the Brazilian national team Vinicius Junior, who was subjected to racist insults from Valencia fans, according to RMC Sport.
This action was held “as a symbol of the collective fight against racism and in solidarity with the player and all those who suffer from prejudice in the world.”
The player himself later thanked on social networks for such an act of support.
Vinicius on Sunday was insulted in the away match of the 35th round of the championship of Spain with Valencia. The meeting was suspended after the Brazilian urged the referee to pay attention to the behavior of the fans. On Monday, Real Madrid filed a complaint with the Spanish Prosecutor General’s Office in connection with the incident with Vinicius.
