Sevilla won the Europa League for the seventh time in history by beating Roma on penalties

Sevilla beat Roma on penalties in the Europa League final.

The meeting was held in Budapest at the Ferenc Puskas stadium. Regular time ended with the score 1:1. In the 35th minute of the match, Roma forward Paulo Dybala hit the goal with a shot into the bottom corner. In the 55th minute, after a cross from the right flank, Roman defender Gianluca Mancini cut the ball into his own net.

In the penalty shootout, the Sevilla players were more accurate – 4: 1. The decisive penalty was taken by defender Gonzalo Montiel. Goalkeeper Rui Patricio saved the defender’s shot, but after watching VAR, it was decided that the Argentine should interrupt. On the second attempt, the player converted the decisive penalty.

For the Spaniards, this victory in the tournament was the seventh in 17 years. Sevilla have previously won the trophy in 2006, 2007, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2020.

Thanks to the victory in the Europa League, the Spaniards will take part in the Champions League next season.
