The young footballer died after a fight at the international tournament
A 15-year-old German footballer has died after he was seriously injured in a fight with the players of the French team at the international youth tournament in Frankfurt.
A teenager died in hospital as a result of a severe head injury after being hit on the head during an argument in Frankfurt, local police said in a statement.
The 16-year-old player of the French team was arrested and is in custody.
The brawl occurred after the final whistle in the game between Berlin and a team from the French second division club Metz. The victim was declared brain dead in one of the local hospitals.
French Metz confirmed the incident in a statement, saying the club was “deeply shocked” by the events at the Frankfurt tournament.
