The head coach of the Italian “Roma” Jose Mourinho criticized the chief referee of the final match of the Europa League against the Spanish “Seville” British Anthony Taylor.
The meeting in Budapest ended with the victory of the Spanish club in the penalty shootout – 4:1 (regular time and overtime – 1:1). Taylor showed 13 yellow cards, seven of which were received by the players of the Italian team
– Told the guys that we’ll either leave here with a trophy, or dead. Well, we are dead. We are dead tired physically and mentally, dead because we believe that this is a defeat with many controversial incidents.
It was a tense, courageous, bright game, but the referee seemed to be a Spaniard. All the time there were yellow cards. The unfairness is that Eric Lamela should have received a second yellow card, the referee did not, and Lamela converted a shot in the penalty shootout, ”said Mourinho, quoted by Football Italia.
This defeat was the first for the Portuguese specialist in six European Cup finals. Mourinho has previously won the Champions League with Porto and Inter, the Europa League/UEFA Cup with Porto and Manchester United, and led Roma to their first Conference League title last season.
