Emotional battles on the football field often arouse genuine interest among the audience. It is good if the players control themselves and do not go beyond what is permitted. But it’s terrible when the disassembly of the players leads to a real tragedy.

The fight between the participants of the match of the international tournament ended in the death of the athlete. The perpetrator of the incident is already in the police.

Dangerous fight

The international German Cup 2023 tournament, held in Frankfurt from 26-28 May, brought together many local and foreign teams made up of young football players. Competitions were held among boys and girls in 13 age categories. At least 12 teams participated in each age group.

On the final day of the tournament, there was a match between the pupils of the amateur German team from Berlin and representatives of the French Metz in the U17 category. After the end of the match, a fight broke out between the players.

One of the young Germans, trying to avoid a fight, began to run away from the field, but the French player caught up with him and hit him from behind on the head or neck. The exact location of the impact is yet to be determined by the police. After that, the player of the Berlin team collapsed on the lawn and lost consciousness.

“It’s incredibly sad”

They tried to bring the Berliner to his senses on the field, but the efforts of the doctors were in vain. After that, the victim was taken to the hospital, where doctors fought for his life. Unfortunately, it was not possible to save the 15-year-old footballer. The athlete was diagnosed with brain death due to severe traumatic brain injuries.

– After a fight on Sunday, a 15-year-old boy died in hospital from serious head injuries. To clarify the circumstances of the death of a young German, an autopsy will be performed in the coming days, the Frankfurt police said in a statement.

The organizers of the international tournament also confirmed the death of the athlete, however, they refused to disclose to journalists the details of what happened.

— We confirm the incident on May 28, 2023 in Frankfurt. We are deeply shocked by what is happening. It’s incredibly sad. We are devastated. Violence on football fields must stop. Our thoughts are with the player’s teammates and parents. We are in close contact with the relevant club, the football association and the police,” the tournament’s social networks reported.

The police regarded the incident as causing injuries that led to the death of a person. The 16-year-old French player was detained during the investigation. They did not remain silent in Metz either. On the official website, the club not only expressed condolences to the relatives of the deceased, but also promised to provide the necessary assistance to investigate all the details of what happened.

The body of the young German footballer is now in the hospital. The vital activity of the organs is supported by devices so that they can go to a good cause, for patients in need of transplantation.
