We single out the main successes of the selection departments of Russian clubs over the past year.
Since 2022, for objective reasons, it has become more difficult to invite quality players to Russia. It was difficult at all times to issue a transfer of a domestic football player for adequate money. Given these inputs, the task for the scouting services and specialists responsible for negotiations was as difficult as possible.
Even under such conditions, over the past year, Russian clubs have managed to find interesting options without spending huge amounts of money. Value for money is the main factor in our analysis of successful transfers.
Artem Dzyuba (Lokomotiv, free agent)

This is definitely not a story about a diamond dug up by scouts. The possibilities of the top scorer in the history of the RPL were well known, but after leaving Zenit, Dziuba’s shares had noticeably fallen. Especially after an unsuccessful trip to Turkey. In such a situation, even Torpedo and Pari NN shied away from the forward like the plague, and the honorary president of the RFU, Vyacheslav Koloskov, gave Artem a disappointing diagnosis.
– Dziuba ended as a football player a long time ago. In such cases, I always remember the phrase of Nikolai Starostin: “Whoever burned down, you can’t set it on fire.” Dziuba burned down at Zenit, and now it’s time for him to end his career. Who needs it now? Koloskov shared his opinion with RB Sport in November.
Dziuba was needed by Lokomotiv. The 34-year-old striker quickly changed the status of the downed pilot to the Phoenix that rose from the ashes. In 10 RPL matches, the decommissioned striker scored eight goals, gave five assists and earned himself a new contract with improved conditions. Loko, on the other hand, bet on zero brought a big jackpot: largely thanks to Dziuba, the team quickly left the play-off zone and showed the best result in the spring segment.
Moises (CSKA, €1m loan)

In previous years, CSKA was heavily burned in the South American market. At the mention of the names of Gaich and Fuchs, army fans become physically sick. Fortunately, lessons from previous failures have been drawn. Now the club chooses players in those parts as carefully as possible, trying to check them in action and then think about a full-fledged transfer.
This happened to the powerful defender Moises. At first glance at this guy, you might think that instead of a football player, a bouncer from an entertainment club came to Moscow. The versatile big guy immediately staked out a place at the base: in the first part of the season he was responsible for the left edge, and after the restart he moved to the center of defense.
Moises, who is able to severely immobilize an opponent, and, if necessary, go into dribbling, was absolutely rightly nominated by the RPL for the title of the best defender of the season. Surprisingly, CSKA, after such a powerful performance, has not yet agreed with Internacional to buy out the footballer’s contract. The Brazilian’s agent recently hinted that his client has offers from other teams. If Roman Babaev and other army managers fail to reach an agreement with Moises and his representative, this will be a terrible blow for Vladimir Fedotov.
Robert Renan (Zenit, part of the trade with Corinthians)
The FIFA rule, according to which foreign players could easily suspend contracts, actually robbed Russian clubs. Football players left Krasnodar and Rubin in batches, Spartak and CSKA did not escape this fate. Last summer, Zenit striker Yuri Alberto did not want to return to Russia, but the St. Petersburg club did not allow himself to be thrown away just like that.
Brazilian agents did not want to spoil relations with the Zenit team and, as compensation, they first sent goalkeeper Ivan and midfielder Mantuan to St. Petersburg, but in terms of their level they did not reach Alberto. In winter, Zenit managed to negotiate a very cool defender from Corinthians. Brazil Under-21 player Robert Renan is a great investment for the future. But now he is bringing real benefits: Semak immediately introduced the newcomer to the starting lineup and did not lose.
At the age of 19, the guy demonstrates tremendous potential: he has excellent technique, starts attacks well and looks as confident as possible for his age. It is too early to sculpt an unmistakable terminator from Renan, but the fact that the tops of the English Championship are closely watching the player speaks volumes. It is important that Zenit owns almost 100% of the rights to the player, so in the event of a future transfer there is a chance to break a decent bank.
Brian Mansilla (Orenburg, loan)

FC Orenburg
A strong breeding department can be created not only in a top club. Proved by “Orenburg”, who managed to find a real treasure in Argentina. Rumors about help in the selection from Zenith were dispelled by Marcel Lichka, who said that Mansilla personally watched.
The left winger was rented for a season from the Argentinean “Racing” and already in the autumn it was clear that such a bright “land” needed to be redeemed. 900 thousand euros in compensation is a great deal for Orenburg, given the qualities of Mansilla, who can perform such masterpieces:

In total, the 26-year-old Argentine scored three goals and six assists in the first season of the RPL – very decent statistics for a player in his position. Clubs from the top half of the table are already looking at Mansilla, and if Orenburg decides to sell, they will earn 3-4 times more than they paid themselves.
Willian Rocha (CSKA, €2m)
Rocher’s Moscow will be remembered not only by Red Square, but also by another “attraction” that Alexander Sobolev introduced him to. The Brazilian brought the Spartak striker to a breakdown, completely closing him in the derby and once again confirming his reputation as one of the best personal players of the season.
If the hyped and expensive Fuchs came to CSKA in the status of a future star, then nothing was known about the modest defender of the Portuguese Portimonense until last summer. The fighting qualities of the newcomer were also very different from his eternally injured predecessor.
– Rosha joined the team from the list and, to be fair, turned out to be a real man – he played despite injuries and injuries, – Vladimir Fedotov told Sport24.
Rivals do not in vain consider Roshu one of the most unpleasant defenders in the RPL. To some, his game may seem unnecessarily tough, but in 21 matches he has only three warnings. Exactly the same as scoring actions (2+1). Rocha is happy to go to set pieces and often shoots at other people’s goal – according to this indicator, he is one of the leaders of the season among central defenders.
Ilzat Akhmetov (Krasnodar, free agent)
In 2018, Akhmetov sparkled in CSKA Gancharenko, becoming one of the main discoveries of the season. He soon established himself in the Russian national team and was rightfully considered a rising star, but after a bright flash, an equally rapid decline followed. Ilzat was hampered by injuries and obvious mental problems, evidence of which were absurd and unmotivated deletions.
CSKA broke up with Akhmetov without much regret, but began to renew his contract. In every sense, the player managed to recover in Krasnodar. At first, Ilzat was only a rotation player, but gradually began to appear on the field more often from the first minutes. In total, he played 38 matches in the season (4 + 5), which is especially valuable with past health problems.
With his technical style, Akhmetov fit perfectly into Krasnodar. It’s too early to call him a real leader of the team, but in terms of the ratio of invested funds and the result obtained, the transfer of the ex-soldier certainly justified itself.
Milan Gajic (CSKA, free agent)

Another successful find of CSKA managers. After the sudden departure of Mario Fernandez, the team needed a player who could close the right curb. Preferably experienced, but not too expensive. Crvena Zvezda did not have to pay for the transfer, but the player himself and his agent still received about 800 thousand euros as a lift. The player’s salary was 700 thousand euros, which is quite adequate for the current market.
Invested funds in the first season justify themselves. Gajic is actively involved in the attacks of CSKA, has already accumulated three assists (a year ago, Fernandez had only one assist), and in terms of the number of playing minutes he is the leader among all the players on the team. It is not surprising that with such Gayich, the army leadership is in no hurry to return Fernandez, who has recently been left without a team again.
Ilya Lantratov (Lokomotiv, €0.2m)
Lantratov outgrew Khimki a long time ago, but it was only last winter that he matured to move to a new level. Compensation to the Moscow Region club amounted to a symbolic 200 thousand euros, but Loko did not offend the goalkeeper with money, giving a contract for one million euros a year. After the arrival of the newcomer, somewhere Daniil Khudyakov was sad, but the team’s fans were completely delighted with the goalkeeper.
The passing yard in Khimki’s defense helped Lantratov become the best goalkeeper of the season in many respects. However, in Loko Ilya had to work hard. Lantratov is the best goalkeeper in the RPL in terms of goals avoided per match (5.1), saved shots (112), saves from clear scoring chances (22) and the percentage of shots saved (75%). It is not surprising that with such statistics, he was nominated for the title of the best goalkeeper of the season along with Akinfeev and Safonov.
Lukas Vera (Orenburg, €1.5m)
This guy was brought to Orenburg by Alejandro Dominguez, who made a stir in the Russian championship in the 2000s. The Argentinean recommended that the scouting department take a closer look at his compatriot, the central midfielder of Lanus. PM, on the other hand, just needed a player of this format: with good technique and the ability to give an sharpening pass. As a result, for relatively little money, Orenburg acquired a chic playmaker by the standards of the RPL.
Vera, without exaggeration, became one of the main discoveries of the championship. After such a season, it will not be easy for Orenburg to keep the Argentinean, but we can definitely say that the club will be able to make good money on a future transfer. Lichka does not hide the fact that Vera can leave for a promotion in the summer. The main contender for the Argentine techie is Lokomotiv.
