The match for the Russian Football Super Cup 2023 will be held in Kazan at the Ak Bars Arena stadium, the press service of the Russian Football Union (RFU) reports.

This decision was made at the executive committee of the RFU. The meeting, which will be attended by the national champion St. Petersburg “Zenith” and the owner of the Cup of Russia, will be held on July 15. The winner of the Russian Cup will be determined on June 11 in the match between CSKA and Krasnodar.

— This year we applied a new approach to choosing the venue for the Russian Super Cup. An invitation was sent to the regions to apply for the match. We received a number of applications from cities wishing to host the Super Bowl, and the regions also gave financial guarantees. The RFU analyzed the applications received, made calculations of the potential financial result of the match.

The capital of Tatarstan has experience in holding sports competitions of the highest level, and we are sure that the city will organize an excellent football festival for fans. According to our calculations, the game at Ak Bars Arena will also give the best financial result of the match. Let me remind you that it is the participating clubs that will receive most of the proceeds; last year this amount exceeded 150 million rubles. We also took into account that the region is most interested in hosting the match and is ready to use the developments that Tatarstan has been preparing for the UEFA Super Cup,” said Alexander Dyukov, head of the RFU.

Ak Bars Arena is the 2018 FIFA World Cup stadium, which was opened in 2013. The arena has hosted six World Cup matches and five matches of the 2017 Confederations Cup. In the 2015/16 season, Ak Bars Arena hosted the final of the Russian Cup. In 2023, the stadium was supposed to host the UEFA Super Cup match.
