Bayern’s Alphonso Davies says Barcelona refused to sign him because he’s Canadian

Bayern defender Alphonso Davies has claimed that Barcelona refused to sign him in 2018 due to his Canadian citizenship.
– Barcelona really approached me, but their then president Bartomeu said that they did not need me. They said they didn’t want me because I’m Canadian. I won’t lie that it crushed my feelings a bit. But this is what appeared in the media. I don’t know if he really said it, but that’s how it happened,” Davis said on the Say Less podcast.
Earlier, 22-year-old Davis was selected in the Bundesliga Team of the Season. He was named the CONCACAF Player of the Year for the second year in a row.
