And the troublemaker faces prison.
Football hooliganism is a phenomenon that still surprises. Many actions of fans raise only one question: “Why?” Now he is in the minds of all adequate fans of the French Bordeaux. After all, the action of one hooligan ruined their team the whole season.
Indeed, why?
Provocation in front of the podium
The incident happened on June 2nd. Bordeaux hosted Rodez in the final round of Ligue 2. The victory was very necessary for both teams. Thanks to her, the Girondins would return to Ligue 1 a year later. “Rodez”, in turn, due to three points could be saved from relegation to the third division.
The match took shape under the dictation of the guests, who opened the scoring in the 23rd minute. Rodez midfielder Lucas Buade ran to the Bordeaux fans’ stands and began celebrating his success right in front of them. At that moment, a guy in a black T-shirt suddenly approached him and pushed him onto the lawn. Buade fell, and the hooligan was restrained by law enforcement officers.
The chief referee stopped the game and took the teams to the locker room. After negotiations with the participation of league delegates and club representatives, it was decided not to finish the match. This was also influenced by the diagnosis of Buade: according to the preliminary conclusion of the doctors, Luca received a concussion. However, a re-examination a few days later revealed no serious injuries.
No promotion
Initially, the decision was scheduled for June 5, but the disciplinary commission of the Professional Football League of France postponed the announcement of the verdict for a week. Bordeaux condemned the actions of the hooligan, while stating that there were no more incidents, and everything went at a high level. The club also offered to finish the match from the 23rd minute, but the commission ignored this option.
The final decision was announced on June 12. The Girondins received a technical defeat with a score of 0:3, and next season they will be deducted one point. Bordeaux will play two home matches in front of empty stands. In addition, the southern sectors of the home stadium, where active fans traditionally gather, will be closed for two more games.
Thus, the team of David Guyon was left without a promotion. A victory over Rodez would have allowed her to overtake the Metz and take the final second place in Ligue 2.
Threatened by the prosecutor’s office
Of course, Bordeaux did not like this verdict. The club has already promised to appeal.
“Today, the disciplinary committee issued a decision that is as incomprehensible as it is disproportionate both from the point of view of the case itself and from the point of view of case law. Bordeaux will contact the league as soon as possible to protect their rights and sporting justice, a statement on the club’s official website said.
Interestingly, there are other victims in this case. In particular, the Annecy club, which is relegated to the third division due to the technical victory of Rodez, intends to appeal the decision. In a statement, the club noted that Luca Buade did not receive serious injuries, and Rodez is trying in every possible way to use this story for personal gain in order to stay in Ligue 2. Annecy even intends to contact the prosecutor’s office if his demands are not met in pre-trial okay.
And the fan who brewed all this mess will face a severe punishment. A hooligan can receive up to a year in prison and a fine of 15,000 euros. The final decision will be made in November.
