Russian coach Dmitry Gunko believes that Massimo Carrera ignited Spartak with emotions in the golden season 2016/2017.
– Carrera was not taken initially as a head coach – he was invited as an assistant to work with the defense. At that time, the team and headquarters were fully formed and staffed. Chief Carrera was appointed spontaneously.
My opinion: the truth is somewhere in the middle. It cannot be said that Carrera has assembled a team. It was not Carrera who trained her, but Alenichev. But he ignited Carrera with emotions. Maybe he brought something that was missing with Alenichev. And all this together has borne fruit. But I would also say about the players. When they felt the closeness of the championship, they no longer needed a coach. They just didn’t need to interfere. And the matches torn out in the end – like the one with the crazy goal of Glushakov – give the players incredible strength, – Gunko told the “Championship”.
Spartak last season WORLD RPL finished in third place under the leadership of Spaniard Guillermo Abascal.
