Former Torpedo coach Andrey Gordeev told Sport24 that he left the Moscow club with regret.

In the 2022/23 season, Torpedo finished last in the WORLD RPL table and were relegated to MELBET First League.

– Is going to Torpedo not a gamble? From the start of the season, it looked like the team would be relegated.

– I’m used to work, and I have something to say as a coach. I feel normal in this steel shop. We managed to improve Torpedo’s game, the team believed in our idea. If you look at the segments of the work of all Torpedo coaches this season, we scored the most points. Then it seemed that this was not enough, but in the end it turned out that more than anyone else. They took six points, beat CSKA, Sochi in the Cup. Everything indicated that progress was being made. But, alas, they did not work as long as they would like. They left with regret.

The key mistake of the Torpedo leadership was that they could not “cut the meat”, as Romantsev said. The team entered the RPL, but the entire squad that played in the First League remained. And this led to the fact that the team could not compete. Breaking up with someone you love is always painful. But without that, you can’t move on. It is better to immediately and honestly tell the player that he is not suitable. We must be able to make such decisions.

Gordeev in August 2022 entered the coaching staff of Nikolai Kovardaev. After Andrei Talalaev joined the team in October, the specialist left the “black and white”.
